Blackwater Falls State Park

1584 Blackwater Lodge Road

About Us:

Blackwater Falls State Park is named for the falls of the Blackwater River whose amber-colored waters plunge five stories then twist and tumble through an eight-mile long gorge.

The "black" water is a result of tannic acid from fallen hemlock and red spruce needles. The falls are one of the most photographed sites in West Virginia.

Blackwater lodge, cabins and restaurant are open year-round and welcome visitors to enjoy winter sled riding, spring greening, cool summer evenings, and autumn foliage.

You'll find good food, comfortable accommodations, and WiFi access if you must stay in touch while you're relaxing at Blackwater Falls.

Our conference facilities host reunions, meetings and special occasions as well as catered banquets and receptions. The indoor guest pool and fitness center is popular with our guests.

Tour buses are always impressed with the magnificent views found at the park in all seasons. There is ample parking and there are no entrance fees. The genuine hospitality you experience at Blackwater Falls is also found Canaan Valley area including the towns of Davis and Thomas, W.Va.

What a beautiful spot to spend a few hours letting the kids run around out of the car. Not a large playground, but we were not there for that. There were both easy and hard trails. The family had a lot of fun jumping around the rocks, and the scenic views were nice. Also there is a well stocked souvenir store with the usual items and some local interesting ones. So nice, we decided to spend the night. The campground was level and well spaced.

Every time I travel to Blackwater Falls State Park I am reminded once again why West Virginia is known as Almost Heaven! Absolutely Beautiful! If you are in need of fresh air, peace, and solitude, look no further! From the cascading water fall to the splendor of the great outdoors what's not to love? And if you forgot to pack lunch visit the snack shack right by the gift shop and restrooms which is located in the main falls parking area. Now pack a bag and get here already!

A couple of friends and I went out for a "spur of the moment" picnic on a beautiful Monday. We drove around and found Blackwater Fall on the map. I haven't been in the park in years so I didn't know what to expect. We were delighted to see the picnic area near the Trading Post building. We picked the right place to enjoy a peaceful lunch under a tree on a picnic table. After that we went to see the waterfalls. They have activities for everyone: boating, camping, fishing, etc. My friends and I had a great time for such an impromptu lunch.

Been here many times and keep coming back. From the view of the falls to the view of the valley there is so much to take in. The tanic acid from the trees that makes the water black gives this such a unique look you’ll be back for more. A fun little gift/souvenir shop at the top parking area has all you need for toys, food and keepsakes. The roads surrounding make for a wonderful drive on a fall day or in the heat of summer! Great place for families, couples and singles alike!

Beautiful, great people at the lodge, campgrounds, and the Smokehouse resturant inside the lodge. The food was delicious at dinner and breakfast. The front desk attendants were so nice, especially to our kids who ask for a piece of tape every 5 minutes, or the ping pong paddles, or whatever. We love the whole town and area, and look forward to moving there very soon!
