See a variety of wildlife at Bentsen State Park World Birding Center. Our 10+ feeding stations, 3 bird blinds, 3 observation decks and two story wheelchair accessible observation tower make seeing wildlife up close easy. Here you might see green jays, Texas tortoises, plain chachalacas, javelinas, altamira orioles, giant toads, roseate skimmers, screech owls, bobcats and other wildlife. Enjoy a bike ride through the park, bring your own or rent one of ours. Other options include tram service (included in park entry fee) and walking along the 8+ miles of trails. Our 2+ acre butterfly garden is home to hundreds of species of butterflies including queens, Mexican bluewings, gulf fritillaries, malachites, great purple hairstreaks, and sometimes pavon emperor. Be sure to stop by the café for a latte, cappuccino, fruit smoothie, muffin, ice cream, fresh baked cookie, sandwich or other tempting treat. The store is full of unique souvenirs, a variety of guide books and other items. The bilingual exhibit hall features information about the birds and their habitat and has a photo of all 500+ bird species found in the Lower Rio Grande Valley of Texas.
